Roman Snail Brooch

The Roman Snail, also known as Helix pomatia, is a large terrestrial gastriped molluk found in Central and Western Europe.  It has a distinctive spiral shell and can grow up to 10cm in length.  In Roman times, it was considered a delicacy and was even farmed for food.  Today, it's a protected species in many countries.
